Sodium Reduction in Canada: Progress and Challenges

The Food Regulatory Issues Division of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Health Canada presented a webcast on the sodium reduction strategy for Canada.

 

Tbis included: 

  • An update on the benchmark guiding levels for sodium reduction in processed foods and new approved food additives for sodium replacement, as outlined in Guidance for the Food Industry on Reducing Sodium in Processed Foods;
  • Insights into the progress being made by the food industry to lower sodium levels and the challenges faced, as well as an update on Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research; and 
  • An update on awareness and education activities related to the issue of sodium reduction as part of healthy eating.
